Comfort Zone

My comfort zone, basketball. Unlike with football I' m able to anticipate the action so I know where to point the lens or I can pan correctly to be in the right spot for the shot .... BUT, that's where it all ends. I learned the hard way this weekend that no matter what you may know about the sport or how good a photographer you think you may be, if you don't have the right glass that will allow you to shoot with enough speed in all lighting conditions you may as well just be a spectator. I was freelancing at the "bucs" championship in Sheffield covering the basketball and boxing and believe me the lighting was just awful at both, this was one of the few useful shots. Even with a 70 - 200 f/2.8 I had to shoot wide open and cranked the ISO up to 1000 and above as we were not able to use flash guns. Comfort Zone no longer :((

Football

True confession time for me .... I hate football !! ... no that's not the confession, i've never shot a night football game before and I had no idea just how hard it would be, this shot is the only decent shot I got so it was a good idea that even though I had a press pass and access to the pitch I wasn't there to shoot the game .. phew ! because I would not have been paid for this one shot that's really not good enough anyway. It was cold, uneven lighting and to top it off I couldn't get my settings right !! This guy was awesome though, his names Yemi Odubade and he scored a hat trick for Stevenage on their way to winning 4 - 0 over Barrow.
